TIBCO Software has developed a software that can allow an intelligent phone or palm-top personal computer to deliver customized data, over the air in real time. The company's company's publish/subscribe/multicasting system, which employs existing popular wireless protocols such as GSM and PCS, allows a subscriber to receive and send information, by utilizing subject-based addressing to drive personalized data to the user's PC or phone. The firm is collaborating with content-provider Aether Technologies to broaden the data base to include more types of business information that can be requested by an individual through the system.

Article Abstract:

A novel intermediate-frequency variable-gain amplifier (VGA) design provides a prescribed gain characteristic that encompasses a discontinuity and a slope change. Such a device may prove valuable to system designs based on complex signal-processing functions, such as direction finding, radar, electronic countermeasures, and threshold detection. With a 3-dB bandwidth of 20 to 50 MHz, the VGA furnishes a 60-dB control range, and used a model AT00253-11 from Alpha Industries as its modulator type.
