Everyone benefits from guaranteed employment security

Article Abstract:

The US steel industry has become highly efficient and productive by adopting a partnership agreement that guarantees employment security and worker involvement. A study of several US steel companies reveals the positive effects of employment security and advanced work systems on productivity and quality. United Steelworkers of America contracts are characterized by employee involvement in all decision making process including capital expenditures, workplace practices and scheduling.

Obstacles vs. obsolescence

Article Abstract:

The role of quality professionals in organizations is obstructed by problems caused by an inconsistent knowledge base and definition of the term quality. Quality professionals must reach an agreement on an underlying conceptual framework in order to be successful. They should adopt a flexible attitude as future quality responsibilities will comprise more of data interpretation and application, and less of data collection and manipulation.

The criteria: A looking glass to Americans' understanding of quality

The Malcolm Baldrige National quality Award 1997 Criteria for Performance Excellence is a tool for self-assessment and improvement. The Category 7, Business Results examines a company's performance and improvement in specific business areas, financial, marketplace performance, and customer satisfaction. Changes are in terms of location rather than substance.
