How to avoid an old flame
Article Abstract:
It has been suggested that thermoplastic acrylic and polystyrene diffusers on luminaires may be a potential cause of fire, however, product safety standards demand that luminaires are heat resistant and are protected from moisture, dust and electrical arcing. All the parts used to make a luminaire also have to meet safety standards. Luminaires have a safety mark which indicates whether they are safe to put onto a flammable surface. Old luminaires may not have been built to such high standards and may not be so safe but they should still be usable if they have been well maintained.
