The insights of 116 successful high technology managers in correcting problems in the product innovation process are presented. Product innovation is comprised of four stages, identified as discovery, decision, development and delivery. The survey of innovation managers pinpointed inadequate resources as the most common problem at every stage of the innovation process. The three guiding principles of total quality management are employed in improving the process. These are customer orientation, constant improvement and employee involvement.
