Integrated environmental management process applying genetic algorithm

Article Abstract:

A Total Environmental Management System using genetic algorithm (TEMS-GA) that considers potential effects on the environment along with other management concerns is proposed. Under such system, an AND-OR tree structure and a list of symbolic expressions are used to model a problem in its structural and quantitative aspects, respectively. Experimental results demonstrate that the system is an effective tool in using genetic algorithm (GA) to search for a better solution, with GA able to determine sub-optimal combinations of activities for a multiple-faceted problem.
