Integrating product and process designs

Article Abstract:

Total Quality Management (TQM) can be used as an effective tool to improve quality in manufacturing by integrating product and process design. TQM uses a comprehensive approach to quality that encompasses recognition of customer needs and creating design processes that focus on continuous improvement on all organizational levels. The comprehensive approach to quality control has many advantages over a traditional hierarchical structure. TQM is an effective method of improving quality which is essential to keeping competitive in the marketplace.

2021: a Russian odyssey; a fictitious scenario to provoke thought and demonstrate TQM's power

Article Abstract:

A fictitious depiction of Russia in the 21st century that demonstrates the potential of total quality management (TQM) principles if applied successfully to a national economy is presented. The author describes the transformation of Russia into a market economy by implementing a number of TQM techniques. The US is portrayed as a third-world country whose decline is attributed to a preoccupation with short-term gains and an unsustainable national debt. The fictitious 21st century Russia modeled its economy using Japanese planning techniques.

Environmental TQM

Article Abstract:

Total quality management principles can be used to successfully implement an environmental focus into a company's management policies. It is essential that managers responsible for implementing the change have a personal or economic interest in preserving the environment. An environmental quality program should emphasize the benefits a company will realize from environmental protection, including cost savings, enhanced market share, ease of obtaining approvals and improved employee morale.
