Introducing a platform strategy in product development

Article Abstract:

The introduction of a platform strategy in new product development offers numerous benefits. Among its key advantages are cost reduction and reductions in the development lead times of the final product. It also has positive effects on international product development and operations management policy of companies. The technical and organizational implications and benefits of a platform strategy are discussed and the evolution of product development through the use of a platform strategy in Japanese automobile makers is analyzed.

A technology oriented productivity measurement model

Article Abstract:

A practical strategy for measuring the productivity of technology in product development of an enterprise that considers market-pull and technology-push is introduced. The method also measures the productivity for each key technology in its development periods. This technology-oriented total productivity measurement model shows strong potential for use in various product groups, tasks and projects in manufacturing as well as service companies.

What and how about quality function deployment (QFD)

Article Abstract:

Quality function deployment (QFD) is a product development process based on the concept of Company Wide Quality Control. QFD has the same elements of project management such as the definition of goals and team selection but replaces uncertain decision making processes with a structured methodology which uses information available throughout the organization. The development of a QFD project is discussed.
