Investment justification of advanced manufacturing technology: an empirical analysis

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to determine the justification activities that are used in US firms to justify the acquisition of advanced manufacturing technologies. The results show that justification approaches and justification criteria preference contribute most to the adoption of more integrated technologies. The number of functional departments involved in the justification process contributes more to project performance than other justification activities. Moreover, most firms do not use probabilistic justification or discounted cash-flow methods.

An empirical evaluation of the impacts of telecommuting on intra-organizational communication

Article Abstract:

The impact of telecommuting on intra-organizational communication has been studied. Information from teleworkers, their managers, co-workers and a control group working at two Canadian federal departments were obtained using questionnaires, telephone interviews and focus group interviews. Results show telecommuting has no significant impact on intra-organizational communication. Managers who were successful in supervising teleworkers adapted their communication style to cope effectively with employees who work at home.
