Is ISO 9001:2000 the beginning of the end?

Article Abstract:

A detailed review has been undertaken of the contents of the proposed ISO 9000, 9001 and 9004 standards. The national task groups working on this review have now produced a new set of draft documents. ISO 9001:2000 has developed into a lengthy and complex document. It will be expensive to implement, particularly for small businesses. No international standard can ever achieve universal approval, but it must be recognized that a number of valuable improvements have been made to ISO 9001:2000.

Qualite a la Francaise

Article Abstract:

Cultural differences between the US and Europe create different management styles. It is worth the effort to understand each other, however, because communication and understanding are essential to product quality. The French in particular do not regard quality as Americans do. They value service less, and have much more centralized, control-oriented organizations. American multinationals must operate locally overseas, not mandate sweeping global action.
