Labour pledges to retain UK Quangos

Article Abstract:

The Labour party's New Opportunities for Business policy document pledges to retain all UK regeneration quangos, although they would be restructured to make them more accountable. Regional development agencies would be created in each English region and the development agencies in Scotland and Wales would be strengthened. The news was welcomed by South Tyneside MBC's policy team leader Kel Beavan, and by the RTIP's development panel Mike Haslam, although he felt that the quangos would have to be truly accountable.

Young bloods unleashed...: whether the 'solid, reliable' type or the 'go-getting' careerist, delegates attending last week's RTPI Planning Students' Conference were given plenty of advice

Article Abstract:

The RTPI Planning Students' Conference was held at the University of Manchester organised by Barry Hearsey and Grant Turner, RTPI student representatives. A key theme was change and how the Institute could play an important role in improving the public image of planners. Delegates also called for the RTPI to take on a more lobbying role, and RTPI student membership was another theme.
