Leaner and fitter?: preparing for reorganisation in April has seen the Welsh becoming the pioneers of some radical developments

Article Abstract:

Wales is pioneering some new developments in planning in preparation for the introduction of the unitary authorities in April. It has issued two consultation documents, Planning Policy Guidance (Wales) and Planning Guidance (Wales): Unitary Development Plans in Wales. A comprehensive planning system will concentrate on strategic planning, guidance relating planning procedure in the form of circulars, technical advice notes and supplementary planning guidance for certain situations.

Natural selection?: Adoption of new interviewing techniques and the impact of local government reorganisation pose job applicants with fresh challenges

Article Abstract:

The reorganisation of local government will mean planning departments will have to undergo major restructuring. Planners will become involved in a competitive selection process including new interview and testing methods and better trained interviewers. This will result in a more searching and rigorous procedure and candidates need to prepare thoroughly to understand the employer's process.

Institute sets up Welsh Planning Policy Panel

Article Abstract:

The RTPI has created a Welsh Planning Policy Panel which aims to provide a pan-Wales public affairs function. Panel representatives will be reponsible for liaising with the government and other organisations on a variety of topics including PPGs, urban regeneration, natural heritage, and local government. The Institute is looking for experienced members to fill the Panel.
