Management system standards poised for momentum boost: revisions, sector specific efforts, health and safety are factors

Article Abstract:

ISO 9000:2000, the revised quality management standard, places more emphasis on continuous improvement and customer satisfaction. It is expected that the new standard will make the generic version easier to implement in the service sector. Furthermore, sector specific derivatives of ISO 9000 are also being developed. TL 9000, the most recent of the sector specific derivations, is being managed by the QuEST Forum. It is now being rewritten to align with the ISO 9000 revisions and to make use of information from firms involved in the pilot registrations. The oldest of the ISO 9000 derivatives is QS-9000, developed by the leading three car manufacturers in 1994.

A metamorphosis in South Carolina: Red Cross region is first to earn ISO 9002 registration

Article Abstract:

The South Carolina Region of the American Red Cross Blood Services has become the first Red Cross blood services in the US to gain ISO 9002 registration. This involved addressing a range of challenges, including viewing the whole operation from a systems perspective, rather than merely those areas that were subject to regulation as actions. The results of certification have included making employees equipped for more effective external communications.
