Manufacturing cost estimation for PCB assembly: an activity-based approach

Article Abstract:

The development of an activity-based cost estimating tool for addressing design-for-manufacturability issues in printed circuit board (PCB) assembly is considered. The system, which computes activity costs with the help of activity charts, spreadsheets and cost build-up tables, enables engineers to identify problem areas that jack up production costs and take preventive steps against them early in the design cycle. A discussion of its application is also included.

Layout problem for an aircraft maintenance company tool room

Article Abstract:

Heuristic methods are used to design the layout for the tool room of an aircraft maintenance firm. The heuristics are employed in the formulation of a mathematical model that takes into account the different parameters that could affect the design, such as the distance of the tool racks from the service counter and the number of racks. Results indicate that the model is very useful for reducing the handling times of the tools as well as the in/out transactions.

An heuristic approach for finite time maintenance policy

Article Abstract:

Computational time for establishing optimal solutions in maintenance policy development must be considered in the treatment of finite time models. Imperfect preventive maintenance reduces expected time of failure by a maintained system compared to a new machine. Heuristic algorithms offer a best possible method by which good quality solutions may be generated for preventive maintenance with minimal computation.
