Match the ups to computer size and cut costs

Article Abstract:

The smaller an uninterruptible power supply (ups) is, the cheaper it is to run. Manufacturers are using microprocessor technology to build smaller ups with high powered switching transistors rather than the traditional thyristors. These systems are intended to protect only those parts of the user's equipment that are essential and concentrate on the critical load. Although more expensive initially, the new designs of ups are more efficient, cheaper to install and need less cooling. Their on-line diagnostic capabilities can also reduce maintenance costs and improve relaibility.

Back up business

Article Abstract:

Static UPS have taken a large share of the UK UPS market, but rotary UPS are still popular in industrial applications where ratings are greater than 800 kVA. Rotary technology is up to 30% more expensive than static systems. Industrial systems need a UPS with a high mean time between failure, but it is also important that the mean time to repair period is as short as possible. This is a difficulty with rotary UPS, with the mean time to repair lasting several hours for large systems.
