Message from the 1992-93 president

Article Abstract:

After four decades of working in the simulation field, the Society for Computer Simulation (SCS) has learned that it is not the only source of high quality technical information on the subject. SCS's challenge, then, is to rejuvenate and advance itself by making it both more important and more service- and quality oriented, and by attracting more simulation professionals. A key focus for SCS in 1993 will be to position itself for the years ahead. The SCS's Strategic Planning Committee team is currently conducting research and development efforts for the purpose of devising a long-term plan. A key element of the planning process is gathering data, and SCS members and SIMULATION readers will be asked to help in this process. Those people who are contacted to make such a contribution are asked to please comply, for their opinions will make a difference in how the society meets their needs in the future.

Golden goals

Article Abstract:

The UK's 22 Premier League football clubs saw average operating profits of 2.24 million pounds sterling in the 1994/1995 season, from 1.86 million pounds sterling in the previous season. Turnover for the football sector as a whole rose by 21% to 468 million pounds sterling. Premier League clubs are particularly benefiting from the expansion of commercial 'off the field' activities such as television broadcasting deals. Wealth is passed from large clubs to small clubs through the transfer market.
