Mixed model assembly simulation

Article Abstract:

A just-in-time (JIT) inventory system is pre-tested and simulated before implementation in a low volume high technology production system. JIT effectively reduces work in process, rework, lead time, production cycle time and space, and improves the quality of customer service. The simulation provides an accurate representation of the real system and allows for process data analysis at any point of the process. It shows the importance of perfect product passing from operator to operator.

The impact of real-time data communication on inventory management

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the influence of real-time data communication on inventory management. In line with this, different methods of real-time data collection were examined. These include bar-coding, two-way frequency transmission and scanning. Results indicated that real-time data communication systems allow manufacturing and distribution firms to better control their inventory operations while competing more effectively in accommodating the needs of their customer.s

A visually interactive expert system for a distribution center environment

Article Abstract:

Analysis of operations in a big distribution center with more than 100,000 storage sites leads to the derivation of rules and conclusions necessary for the development of an expert system. Such a system uses an automated storage and retrieval setup and uses the wooden pallet, simple as it may seem, as the basis of computation. The system provides a visual and, therefore, significantly helpful way to engage in simulation exercises relevant to inventory control.
