On the Uppark: it's almost six years since fire devastated Uppark, the National Trust's 17th Century country house in West Sussex. A sea of charred remains offered little hope for restoration but incredibly the epitaph has been kept at bay

Article Abstract:

Although fire devasted Uppark, the National Trust's 17th Century country house in West Sussex, much of the structure and interior survived. 95% of the ground floor, basement and show rooms contents were saved. Building repar was completed by June 1994 and furnishings were returned to their original state before the fire. The new electrical services includes a fully intelligent fire system which is also linked to a central monitoring station via a building management system.

Fun on the yellow brick road

Article Abstract:

Danish toy manufacturer Lego has recently opened a theme park on the 150 acre site which was formerly Windsor Safari Park. The project took three years to complete, and is believed to have cost around 90 million pounds sterling. The development features a large amount of high advanced technology in areas including security and a fully integrated electronic point of sale system. It also has a building attraction management system.

Light years ahead

Article Abstract:

The UK's third Lighting Design Awards were held in London during September 1995. The competition, run by the Lighting Industry Federation, is divided into four categories; civic, leisure, commercial and exterior. The commercial sector was won by Bennetts Associates' lighting scheme for PowerGen's new HQ in Coventry. A table of winners is presented.
