PPG6 to revive the high street's heart

Article Abstract:

It is important that planners work with the private sector to seek town centre sites for development, according to the final version of PPG6 published recently by the UK government. The government is seeking to encourage a positive approach to planning, and aims to revive town centres. The document has been mainly welcomed by planners, but some concern has been expressed about changes to the guidance on multiplex cinemas.

Guidance for catching the next retail wave: the draft PPG6, published last week, prepares planners for the coming of the factory outlet. But are edge-of-centre sites about to come into their own?

Article Abstract:

The new draft PPG6 reflects the determination of the government to revitalise town centres, by encouraging developers to invest in them. It wants to see new retail development in town and district centres and it calls for local authorities to appoint town centre managers. This would achieve improved comunications between the public and private sectors and better promotion of the town centre.
