Planning Noranda's future

Article Abstract:

Noranda Inc utilized the scenario planning management tool in determining its future strategies. Scenario planning involves the consideration of various futures consistently and intelligently. This tool allows firms to capitalize on their strengths and to minimize the risks provided by unexpected events. Among the specific questions Noranda asked were where and how the company should be grown, the most promising businesses in terms of long-term demand and how it can achieve competitive advantage. As a result of its scenario planning exercise, Noranda decided to divest its oil, gas and forestry assets and focused on mining and metallurgy.

Crash resistant trains on the right track

Article Abstract:

ABB Rail Vehicles Ltd. has developed trains designed to resist crashes. The trains are mainly made out of extruded aluminium. The new Electric Multiple Unit, Class 365, Networker Express is made of only aluminium alloys. It improves the safety of passengers by absorbing as much of the energy from crashes as possible.
