Pressure drop for non-Newtonian slurries: a wider path

Article Abstract:

The frictional pressure drop through pipelines having a slurry with wide particle distribution and a significant percentage of fines can be determined through an expanded procedure. The method is based on research done by Molerus and assumes that the fluid phase is Newtonian and the particle distribution is not very broad. Molerus was able to develop three dimensionless variables, which are correlated in a 'state diagram,' by focusing on the total power consumed by the fluid-wall and the fluid- particle interactions.

Sizing up the storage bin

Article Abstract:

Equations are presented for retrofitting solids storage bins for an existing space, with the objectives of maximizing the volume of stored solids, and defining the geometric parameters of the bin are presented. For a single bin, available height is the usual design restriction. For two adjacent bins, that will occupy the available space, there may also be a restriction on maximum bin radius. The ultimate capacity of the bins is dependent on the configuration of the bin and the angle of repose of the solids.
