Protectionism spurs conflicting views

Article Abstract:

A Gallup poll survey reveals that majority of Americans approve the imposition of restrictions on imported products. Eighty per cent of those who were surveyed believed that the quality of American goods can compete well with imported products sold in the US. Sixty-seven per cent of the 1,006 respondents agree to restricting the number of imports sent to the US. However, American Society for Quality Control Executive Dir Paul E. Borawski oppose this view claiming that protectionism would be damaging to the quality of American products.

Robotics in automated inspection

Article Abstract:

Automated inspection and quality control systems are increasing applications in the manufacturing process due to higher product quality standards. Flexible robotic systems are often characterized by high performance sensors, which help a manufacturer detect problems in an on-line inspection process. A robotic inspection system allows manufacturers to minimize costs while ensuring a consistent high product quality.
