Quartz No. 1 for industrial heat

Article Abstract:

Sales of quartz heaters in the UK radiant industrial heating market rose by an average 18% a year between 1985 and 1990, compared with 2% growth for the radiant heating sector as a whole. While the market for quartz heating is still small, quartz heaters have found applications in a wider range of premises than other types of industrial heating equipment. These include commercial buildings such as sports facilities and community halls. While quartz heaters are expected to account for a growing proportion of the radiant heater market, suppliers forecast a further fall in sales in 1992.

Homing in on heat pumps

Article Abstract:

London Electricity is promoting the domestic use of heat recovery technology. Heat recovery is used in commercial buildings but has been regarded as uneconomical in domestic buildings in Britian. London Electricity, however, is installing heat pump systems as part of refurbishment projects in several tower blocks. A prototype system installed in a flat in Camden has reduced running costs from 750 to 102 pounds sterling a year. Larger, centralised systems are being installed in other blocks.
