Report on non-metallic solar collectors: benefitting from the rapid progress of polymer technology, manufacturers have solved many early problems of plastics exposed to sunlight, heat, chemicals, and pressure

Article Abstract:

Non-metallic solar collectors are very important to the industry, equal to or better than, and cheaper than, metal flat-plate collectors in low temperatures. Among plastic collectors, efficiency differences are relatively small. Installing ease and design soundness are significant factors in selection, as well as manufacturers' reputation.

Australians stalk the advanced collector: flat plates, evacuated tubes, solar-boosted heat pumps, parabolic troughs, and concentrating dishes are spicing the pot of research brewed down under

Article Abstract:

Australia exploits its warm, sunny climate in developing solar energy. Its industry yielded 75,000 square feet of collectors in 1972, and 2.15 million in 1982, 50 more square feet per capita minus tax credits than in the U.S. University and outside research, manufacturing, and financing developments are outlined.

The solar age domestic hot water directory

Article Abstract:

Over 20% of U.S.-manufactured solar collectors are used to heat water in homes. Such equipment is easy to make and economical. Federal tax credit assumes 40% of the cost, with many states adding further credits. Some utilities offer cash rebates. Loan-funds for water-heater purchase are widely available.
