Seal flips pumps in new directions: new opportunities for using air-powered pumps are about to emerge as a result of innovations that have overcome traditional problems

Article Abstract:

Innovations affecting the switching of internal air vales in reciprocating pumps include a teardrop shaped seal which enables the air supply to act as the valve switchover trigger. Another design is based on the compressive action of the piston. Both design eliminate the need for mechanical collisions to detect piston position, and bleed holes. Major fluid power companies are undertaking further research into the technology with Double Seven, the development company.

Novel architecture pumps up the volume

Article Abstract:

California-based EO Industries has developed the Cylindrical Energy Module (CEM), a new pump architecture that has uses in areas such as agriculture, military, aerospace and home appliances. The high-efficiency CEM is an axially arranged positive displacement pump that provides up to 24 times the power of comparable devices and is a fraction of their size. Operating at a high pulse rate, the CEM runs at 24 pump cycles per minute and then at 28,000 pulses per second.

Support structure pumps up the value

Article Abstract:

A range of pumps and valves are described for use in engineering. The Rexroth Hydroulics compact KVA pump contains axial tapered pistons and a 40 degree bent axis design. It has a continuing operating pressure of 300 bar and a peak pressure of 350 bar. The valve manufacturer Camozzi Pneumatics will supply NPTF valves to the United Kingdom. They include a wide range of manual, pneumatic and ISO designs.
