Select the right alloys for hydrofluoric acid service

Article Abstract:

Hydrofluoric acid (HF) and anhydrous hydrogen fluoride (AHF) are used mainly in the manufacture of fluorocarbons and aluminum and alkylation of hydrocarbons. Alloy 400 is the preferred material for use in constructing components for handling HF and AHF since it is resistant to all concentrations of HF over a wide range of temperatures. Alloy 200 and 600 are used at higher temperatures and where corrosion may be severe. On the other hand, Alloy 825 may be used for equipment that cannot be stress- relieved.

Going green with zeolites

Article Abstract:

Zeolites have become established as vital inorganic materials with different environmental applications. Some of its initial uses include lead-free octane enhancers for gasoline and phosphate-free ion exchangers for detergent water softening. Research activities have already led to the creation of zeolite structures with desired properties. This ability to be modified makes zeolites ideal for many environmental applications.
