Shocking history
Article Abstract:
The Society for Protection of Ancient Buildings has published guidance for electricians who are renewing the power supply in historic buildings. The pamphlet is called 'Technical pamphlet 9: Electrical Installation' and it advises contractors to consider both the aesthetic appearance and the potential damage to the building or contents. Any maintenance work must be sympathetic to the style of the building. Contractors need to liaise with each other before work commences. Power supplies need to be tested regularly and occupants need to be conscious of possible problems.

BS 7671: leaked document
Article Abstract:
Earth leakage currents exist in all electrical installations and are caused by wiring faults, equipment leakages or insulation leakages. Earth leakage currents are most easily measured using an earth leakage current tester, some of which filter the frequency of measured earth leakage current. BS 7671 has a section that addresses earth leakage current problems and lists design requirements that will ensure the circuit protective conductor remains safe.
