The conference method of redesign

Article Abstract:

Organizational redesigns produced by the traditional design team and approved by a committee waste time and money and often are not easily accepted by the organization's members. The conference method, based on a process developed by Fred Emery and Eric Trist, can produce a design in a day or two that would normally take months. Buy-in is almost assured because a large portion of the organization participates in the process. Subgroups share ideas about technical and social components of the design in a large conference setting. Implementation of the method at a textile company is detailed.

Avoiding a conference train wreck

Article Abstract:

Emotional outbursts during a business conference often have damaging consequences that participants are advised to avoid them. Conference planners can help avoid these emotional outbursts by following three essential steps, namely, stressing the conference's goals and objectives, making enough space for emotional expressions, and being aware of signs for a possible outburst and intervening when it happens.
