What chemical engineers can learn from Mother Nature

Article Abstract:

Economic pressures particularly on R and D are quite severe on the chemical proces industries. However, nature's evolutionary processes provide a number of complex, effective mechanisms for increasing the economy of evolutionary activity, some of which are already being applied by chemical engineers. A review of the rapidly growing body of literature in biological evolution and nonlinear dynamics suggests that they can be used as the bases for improving innovation rates in a cost-effective manner within the chemical process industries.
