Spotfire has launched a Web-based decision-analytics portal for scientific and industrial communities called Spotfire.net. Users can access and analyze large amounts of data and collaborate across the entire entreprise and beyond. Spotfire.net is made up of the SpotfirePro data visualization engine and Spotfire Forum, a Web site for hosting discussion groups, free plug-ins and best-practice scenarios. Spotfire.net is available for $2,000 a year on a subscription basis.

A raptor that preys on soil contaminants

Article Abstract:

U.S. Microbics Inc has introduced an onsite microbial treatment system for treating hydrocarbon-contaminated soil. The microbes as cultured in fermenters, then centrifuged and dried before shipping. The contaminated soil is excavated and mixed with bacteria in a BioRaptor machine. The bacteria have been found to be effective on various kinds of hydrocarbons, including any type of fuel and many polychlorinated compounds.
