A solution to the nuclear menace is at hand

Article Abstract:

Greenpeace proposes the signing of a global ban on nuclear weapons and nuclear disarmament. Greenpeace believes that the shutting down of all nuclear power reactors will prevent disasters like the one at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine in April 1986. Greenpeace's Environmental Marshall Plan suggests using the funds for keeping the remaining reactors at Chernobyl operational to finance its eventual shut down. It also proposes simultaneous efforts to provide alternative sources of power to Ukraine, such as gas or combustion turbines.

Greenpeace and the contract on America

Article Abstract:

The Republican-controlled Congress, through its 'Contract with America,' is in the process of legislating a number of environmentally-questionable concepts. For example, state and local governments are responsible for enforcing many safety and health regulations, but federal funds for this purpose are being dried up while corporate subsidy programs that damage the environment remain funded. In addition, the taxpayer is being asked to pay corporations to refrain from polluting.
