Capacity building for sustainability: Towards community development in coastal Scotland

Article Abstract:

An assessment of local stakeholder needs along the Scottish coastline is provided and the degree to which performance improvements within Scottish Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) can be made is considered. Although increased community capacity could potentially empower local communities with the ability to tackle the impacts of socio-economic change, an evaluation of ICZM performance reveals a limited interest in advancing community development initiatives.
