Child lifting: wolves in hazaribagh, India

Article Abstract:

Researchers conducted a study to investigate the problem of child-lifting by wolves in Hazaribah West, Koderma and Latehar forest divisions in India. They found that five wolf packs have created problems in 63 villages with 80 child casualties between 1993 and 1995. Furthermore, they found that more female victims were taken and almost 89% were between 3 to 11 years of age. Their recommendations include studying wolf habitats and populations, compensation to victims' families, and more research on wolf behaviors.
