Article Abstract:

The environmental organization Greenpeace is campaigning for the phaseout of the use of chlorine and other dangerous toxins. Research has shown evidence that chlorine-based compounds or organochlorines such as CFCs and other refrigerants cause illnesses such as breast cancer in women and other disorders. To address the danger posed by chlorine, the US and Canadian International Joint Commission on the Great Lakes has recommended in 1992 to stop the use of chlorine-based compounds and instead use alternative chemicals.

Greenpeace is campaigning for a stop to all logging in primary forests, help sustainable forestry projects and rechannel all federal funding to Forest Service timber and road construction to forest restoration and socio-economic needs of timber communities.
