Does increased habitat complexity reduce predation and competition in coral reef fish assemblages?

Article Abstract:

The association of habitat complexity with a greater abundance and diversity of organisms is discussed. An experiment is conducted for testing whether increased habitat complexity reduced the negative effects of resident predators and competitors on recruitment and survival of a common damselfish and accordingly behavioral attributes of interactors and developmental stage of inferior competitors is demonstrated.

The impact of habitat loss and fragmentation on genetic drift and fixation time

Article Abstract:

The effect of habitat geometry and availability on genetic drift is studied by a simple genetic model instigated with an established method from landscape ecology. The existence of a threshold for fixation time of selectively neutral genotypes by genetic drift is seen and a complex relationship between habitat availability, habitat geometry and the process of genetic drift is revealed.

A method for stimulating patterns of habitat availability at static and dynamic range margins

Article Abstract:

A simple method that stimulates the distribution of suitable habitat sites at the edge of the range is presented. Habitat availability is determined as a function of both latitudinal and local environmental variability, the relative importance of the two can be adjusted, and also describes the shifting during the period of climate change.
