Economic assessment of the negative impact of ozone on crop yields and forest production. A case study of the estate Ostads Sateri in southwestern Sweden

Article Abstract:

The application of recently developed quantification methods for examining the effects of ground-level ozone in forest and crop growth is discussed. The yield of wheat reduced by 5 percent and the yield of potato reduced by 10% due to ground level ozone concentrations and climate at the estate Ostads Sateri in southwestern Sweden. The prevailing mean ozone exposure during 1993-2003 was found to be potentially responsible for reducing forest growth by 2.2% and economic return of forest production by 2.6% leading to an annual economic loss of 56 million Euros for Sweden.

The tail feathers of osprey nestlings (Pandion haliaetus L.) as indicators of change in mercury load in the environment of southern Sweden (1969-1998): a case study with a note on the simultaneous intake of selenium

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the tail feathers of 104 osprey nestlings (Pandion haliaetus L.) from Lake Asnen, southern Sweden, was undertaken for total mercury and selenium content. Results indicate that the bioaccumulated quantity of selenium that is thought to be protective for the organisms against the toxic effects of mercury is somewhat insufficient to bind all body mercury.

Public participation in municipal planning as a tool for coastal management: Case studies from western Sweden

Article Abstract:

Four main models of Swedish natural resource management have participation in physical and spatial planning, Swedish coastal management and physical planning, and Swedish coastal management. Even though physical planning and its participation have weaknesses, they build useful links and develop feedback in user groups and across sectors.
