Environmental stakeholder management as a business strategy: the case of the corporate wildlife habitat enhancement program

Article Abstract:

The nation's biodiversity preservation initiatives have undergone several significant transformations. There is an increasing focus on the private landowner as a participant in biodiversity protection, on greater corporate stewardship of the environment, on increasing stakeholder management, and on increasing acceptance and use of new, voluntary, collaborative environmental techniques. The strategic benefits to corporations for participating in ecologic biodiversity preservation programs in terms of enhanced stakeholder relationships are investigated.

On some aspects of ecological resilience and the conservation of species

Article Abstract:

Research on ecological-economic systems was conducted to examine both the economic and ecological sides of the concept. The purpose of the study is twofold, namely, to propose a new characterization of ecological resilience and to utilize such characterization in the analysis of the conservation of optimal species. The type of characterization that emerged is dependent on the number of species in an ecosystem, the death-time distribution functions and the number of species necessary for stability.

Using resistance and resilience measurements for 'fitness' tests in ecosystem health

Article Abstract:

A study examined the resistance and resilience of stressed and unstressed ecosystems to drought, a natural disturbance. It was hypothesized that unstressed ecosystems would maintain their resistance and be resilient. Resistance of grasses and a sub-shrub during a drought and re-establishment of plant cover were reduced in the stressed ecosystems.
