Increased risk of parasitism as ecological costs of using aggregation pheromones: laboratory and field study of Drosophila-Leptopilina interaction

Article Abstract:

The whole complex of costs, benefits and constraints is important to fully understand the impact of communication on the ecology of animals. The effects of hosts' aggregation pheromone on complex host searching behavior in parasitoids, with their dynamic use of information, are discussed with illustrations of laboratory and field experiments.

The role of pre- and post- alighting detection mechanisms in the responses to pitch size by specialist herbivores

Article Abstract:

The importance of pre- and post- alighting detection in the responses of herbivores to spatial heterogeneity of the habitat is discussed. The role of foraging behavior of herbivores on their response to patch size is explored using a spatially explicit individual-based simulation framework.

Mixed blend of herbivore-induced plant volatiles and foraging success of carnivorous arthropods

Article Abstract:

The effect of mixing the blends of volatiles emitted by two plant species on the foraging behavior of the predatory mite Phytoseiulus persimilis is investigated. Other types of odour-blend mixing and the effects on food web interactions are discussed with the help of results.
