Invasion and persistence of plant parasites in a spatially structured host population

Article Abstract:

Key parameters are described which govern a plant parasite's ability to invade and remain within a host population. These are the parasite basic reproductive numbers within a population patch, and the ways in which neighboring population patches interact. These parameters characterize the ability of the parasite to spread over larger spatial scales.

Density-dependent dispersal in host-parasitoid assemblages

Article Abstract:

Studies on interactions between the parasitoid wasp Anisopteromalus calandrae and its host beetle Callosobruchus chinensis demonstrate the key role of population density in determining invasive species' rate of spread in a given environment. A metapopulation model that incorporates a wider range of dispersal functions is applied and explicated.

Which traits promote persistence of feral GM crops? Part 1: Implications of environmental stochasticity

Article Abstract:

The population growth rate, elasticities and quasi-extinction times are studied with the help of stochastic matrix model to assess the fate of specific generally modified (GM) plants in cultivated or natural environment. The result indicates that changes in survival in the seed bank impact population growth and persistence most.
