Nitrogen deposition and herbivory affect biomass product and allocation in an annual plant

Article Abstract:

The direct influences of nitrogen (N) deposition on plant biomass production and allocation of an annual plant and the indirect influences of N deposition on plant biomass production and allocation caused by changes in the rates and consequences of insect herbivory are explored. The results suggest that both herbivory and N deposition may be particularly important in affecting reproduction of Ambrosia artemisifolia but that the specific impacts of herbivory will differ with herbivore species.

Effects of natural and simulated herbivory on spine lengths of Acacia drepanolobium in Kenya

Article Abstract:

The experimental evidence supporting the hypothesis that increased spine length in acacia species is a defense induced by herbivory is presented. Herbivory by megaherbivores and other large mammalian herbivores at a field site in Laikipia, Kenya is effectively controlled using two types of electric fences.
