Parasite establishment and host extinction in model communities

Article Abstract:

The study shows the result of invasion which is determined by numerically simulating the dynamic of the community by classifying the outcome of the parasites established in the focal host populations in the proportions of host and non-host species that go extinct as a result of parasites introduction. It is shown that in the simulated communities, non-host species went extinct more frequently than hosts, suggesting the importance of the community in context of disease.

When is a correlation between non-independent variables "spurious"?

Article Abstract:

Four common types of analyses are considered where the X and Y variables are not independent. The results indicate that the risk of producing spurious correlation when analyzing non-independent variables is very large.

Evidence for adaptive self-superparasitism in the dryinid parasitoid Haplogonatopus atratus when conspecifics are present

Article Abstract:

The possibility of production of higher fitness returns per host in self-superparasitized hosts is investigated. The value of self-parasitized hosts is compared to that of unparasitized hosts.
