Recovery of crustacean zooplankton communities from acidification in Killarney Park, Ontario, 1971-2000: pH 6 as a recovery goal

Article Abstract:

A comparison is presented between lakes with pH levels of below 6 and those with pH levels of above 6 in Ontario, Canada's Killarney Park region. Previously acidic lakes with pH levels now above 6 demonstrated similar zooplankton species richness as that of neutral lakes, indicating that pH 6 is a productive ecological goal.

Littoral microcrustacean (Cladocera and Copepoda) indicators of acidification in Canadian Shield lakes

Article Abstract:

Findings are presented for two water quality surveys conducted on Canadian Shield lakes, performed 10 years apart. Different research techniques are compared, such as activity traps and net-hauls, and indicator species are identified for different water pH levels. Results indicate acidification recovery is in progress.
