Resource availability and biodiversity effects on the productivity, temporal variability and resistance of experimental algal communities

Article Abstract:

Nutrient availability and species richness in aquatic algal microcosms were independently manipulated to test whether and how resource availability modifies the intensity of selection/complementary effects and alters the long-term biodiversity effects on productivity and stability of ecosystems. The effect of species richness on the temporal variability of community was found to be neutral, while a stabilizing effect of diversity was observed in nutrient-poor environment.

Parasites boost biodiversity and change animal community structure by trait-mediated indirect effects

Article Abstract:

The study examines the trait-mediated indirect effects of echinostome trematodes on a New Zealand soft bottom intertidal community of macroinvertebrates. The results demonstrate that parasites, solely through their impact on the behaviour of a single community member, can be significant determinants of animal community structure and function.

Native harvester ants threatened with widespread displacement exert localized effects on serpentine grassland plant community composition

Article Abstract:

The influence of harvester ants on serpentine grassland plant species composition is investigated by examining two potential signatures of seed harvesting ants on plant community composition. The results revealed that there were no relationships between plant species distributions and previously reported harvester ant seed foraging patterns.
