Resource partitioning and interspecific competition in snakes: The search for general geographical and guild patterns

Article Abstract:

The articles published on study of competition dynamics in snake communities are reviewed with the aim of finding any general geographical or guild patterns and assessing the conclusion made by Toft. It is concluded that Toft's suggestion that snakes were atypical among vertebrates because sympatric species usually partition the food niche generally holds true and that interspecific competition is important in structuring many of the snake communities around the world.

Avoid your neighbors: Size-determined spatial distribution patterns among northern pike individuals

Article Abstract:

The spatial distribution of individuals in a population of northern pike, where individuals should avoid conspecifics to avoid risks such as superior competition and cannibalism is highlighted. It is shown that individuals of northern pike spatially avoid larger conspecifics.
