Article Abstract:
Nova hut (NH) (Ostrava, Czech Republic), steel firm, invested 800 mil Kc in desulphurising equipment. The equipment is intended for the desulphurisation of coke-oven gas and the removal of ammonia from coke-oven gas. The equipment was commissioned in December 1998. The equipment's capacity is 75,000 N cu mt per hour, which corresponds to the production of 1.5 mil t of coke per hour. The general suplier of the equipment was the engineering firm Chemoprojekt (Prague, Czech Republic). The equipment utilises Amasulf technology from Krupp-Uhde (Germany). The technology is one of the most difficult methods of desulphurisation but it produces high-quality sulphur without side-line products and waste. The technology enables the liquidation of ammonia. That is why NH was able to stop its old, non-effective and hygienically problematic ammonium sulphate production. The pulp producer Biocel (Paskov, Czech Republic) will be the main consumer of liquid sulphur from NH. Biocel will take 1,800 t of liquid sulphur from NH every year. Sulphur dioxide emissions from NH's coke production will decrease to 400 t per year due to the equipment compared to the former 4,000 t per year.

At the Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco, trawlers get the bulk of the fish harvest while leaving hook and line fishermen bankrupt. A bill was passed in the US senate imposing a ban on big-time fishermen but hook and liners are not so sure if their and the ocean's conditions will still improve.
