Sea turtles nest recording program: Unguja Island

Article Abstract:

Unguja Island in Tanzania has shown a decline in sea turtle nesting sites. The most common threats come from natural erosion, humans collecting eggs, killing of nesting turtles, netting turtles in commercial fishing operations, and hotel construction. Sea turtle populations can be restored through improved public awareness, government support for conservation programs, and zoning programs that are properly monitored.
