Shifts in winter distribution in birds: effects of global warming and local habitat change

Article Abstract:

There is a northward shift of migratory birds from Cape Cod, Massachusetts, USA, as well as massive and widespread biogeographic shifts causing ecological and human effect due to global warming. Due to urban sprawl the danger of global warming continues and the effects of warming on bird distributions are more substantial at the start of the 21st century.

Cameroon rainforest: economic crisis, rural poverty, biodiversity

Article Abstract:

Poverty is threatening sustainable biodiversity use in Cameroon. The country's economic crisis is having a distinctly negative impact on rural societies, causing a sharp rise in excessive exploitation of rain forest flora and fauna. This has generated a growing erosion of regional biodiversity, linking conservation efforts to sound economic policy.

Knowledge and utilization of edible mushrooms by local populations of the rain forest of south Cameroon

Article Abstract:

Mushroom consumption among the Bantu and Begyeli of Cameroon is low, despite extensive knowledge concerning edibility and utility of mushrooms in both ethnic groups. It is posited that low consumption is therefore related not to lack of knowledge but to social valuation.
