Chance and challenge for China on ecosystem management: Lessons from the west-to-east pipeline project construction

Article Abstract:

The West-to-East Pipeline Project (WEPP) is one of the many important construction projects in China which travels through carious landforms in seven provinces, two independent areas and the Shanghai municipality over 4,000 km. The construction involves various activities that disturb the soil systems, vegetation, surface river systems and landscape and hence environmental conservation and ecological restorations are primary considerations, which needs to taken into consideration while planning and decision making by the project owners and officials and cooperation of various communities.

Sustainable management of alpine meadows on the Tibetan Plateau: problems overlooked and suggestions for change.

Article Abstract:

The sustainable management of the alpine meadows on the Tibetan Plateau is not only closely related to the survival and development of the herdsmen on the plateau, but also to the environmental protection of China. An effective Tibetan Plateau Protection Law is needed which should be effective and would prevent the destruction of the alpine meadows.
