The Nutrient Flow Model for Dutch agriculture: a tool for environmental policy evaluation

Article Abstract:

The Nutrient Flow Model (NFM) is an efficient micro-simulation method to evaluate environmental policy. It provides an integrated approach to handle various nutrients at the same time by considering every input and output. It outlines the whole range of nutrient flows within farms. It also facilitates interactive modelling between farms. However, an empirical data based evaluation of the technical models used in the NFM is necessary to assess nutrient losses.

A framework for assessing the impact of the IPPC directive on the performance of the pig industry

Article Abstract:

The article uses a cost/benefit analytical approach for assessing the environmental, economic, and political implications of the European Union's Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control legislation on the pig-farming industry. It is concluded that while the legislation will enhance dialogue between the industry and agency, more research is needed to assess environmental and economic effects.
