The continuing energy crisis

Article Abstract:

More than one million poor people have their heat turned off every winter because they cannot afford to pay for utilities. The government tries to help with energy assistance programs, but these are insufficient to meet the energy needs of its recipients.

Finding environmental solutions to low-income energy needs

Article Abstract:

The government should stop using public funds to protect traditional fossil fuel energy sources. Instead, it should channel public funds toward giving poor people access to energy resources using a variety of direct and indirect assistance programs.

Finding a seat for all

Federal policy favors automobile transportation, which is inacessible to the poor. Environmentalists and social justice advocates have thus joined forces to promote mass transit, which greatly benefits the poor.
