A platform perspective

Article Abstract:

The factors which determine the choice of platform which scrap processors have to decided on are the jagged metal scraps, mud which can make movements difficult and concrete that should be long-lasting. Processors' choice of materials handling equipment have also broadened due to the changing requirement and economics of scrap collection and processing. Among the most important trends in material handlers are the crawling hydraulic scrap handler, rubber-tired hydraulic scrap handler, pedestal mounted boom and stick stick scrap handler and railcar-mounted hydraulic handler.

Going after the small stuff

Article Abstract:

A scrap collection facility has been established by Minneapolis, MN-based AmericanIron to ensure that household metallic items are either processed into scrap or recycled. The company said its Scrappy's Recycling Express is intended to collect small amounts of recyclable metal from the general public and small businesses. The recyclable metals include household metals such as aliminum cans and spring cleaning items.

Shredding scrap today and tomorrow

Article Abstract:

Innovations in the shredding process in addition to improvements in equipment has enabled the scrap metal industry to advance. Despite the many variable in shredding operations, all shredding have three basic elements of function: size reduction, ferrous cleaning and nonferrous metal recovery. As to shredding equipment, the trend is towards bigger shredders, heavier rotors, heavier hammers and larger motors.
